A chill is in the air as December sinks in, but Sunstang is warmed up from a long term hard at work, and we’re ready to step into gear for the new year!

This term, the team has achieved several goals. The mechanical team has finalised many components of the car’s design. The frame will be constructed of chrome-moly 4130 steel and is designed around the body of a 6”, 180lb driver. Because 2013 is the first race that this particular team will participate in, our focus this year has been around safety. The aero body will be of a Kevlar and fiberglass composite. The combination of these materials, the steel and composite, ensure that the vehicle is lightweight (for optimal speed) but at the same time incredibly strong. Adhering to crash limitations, the strength of the car’s body and frame will still allow for proper buckling that ensures the safety of the driver.

As exams finish the team will separate to return to their families for the holidays. But Sunstang will be revving around the corner along with 2013!
